A Food List is not Nutrition Advice

Today I met with a client who left a specialist appointment feeling confused, overwhelmed, and anxious about what she was allowed to eat.

She had been told to avoid a list of high FODMAP foods and was sent on her way.

No explanation of what FODMAPs are.

No explanation that the low FODMAP diet is not intended to be a lifelong diet.

No discussion about how to maintain a balanced diet.

No guidance on reintroducing foods.

No support.

As dietitians, we see this all too often. People are handed a list of foods to avoid and are left trying to figure it out themselves.

The problem is that nutrition is rarely as simple as "eat this" or "don't eat that."

A low FODMAP diet can be incredibly effective for managing IBS symptoms, but it is also one of the most complex dietary interventions we use. When done incorrectly, it can become unnecessarily restrictive, increase anxiety around food, and potentially impact nutritional adequacy.

This is exactly why dietitians exist.

Our role isn't just to tell you what to eat. It's to help you understand why, show you how, and support you through the process so you can achieve the best possible outcome without feeling deprived or confused.

You don't have to navigate IBS alone.

My IBS Reset Program takes the confusion out of managing IBS by providing clear, evidence-based guidance and ongoing support throughout the entire process. Instead of relying on food lists and internet searches, you'll learn exactly which foods trigger your symptoms, which foods you can confidently enjoy, and how to build a sustainable way of eating that works for you.

Ready to stop guessing and start feeling better?

Explore the IBS Reset Program and take the first step towards better gut health today.
